Endodontics

Endodontics is the name of the branch of dentistry that deals with diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to dental plaque, dental pulp (nerve tissue) and surrounding tissues.

The purpose of root canal treatment is to keep the intended tooth in themouth for a long time. It is a type of treatment applied to the teeth with hypersensitivity to hot and cold foods and having night pain.

In canal treatment, living tissues (nerves and vessels) in the root canal of the tooth are removed and the canal space is cleared by disinfectant solution and canal arches. The canal space is filled with biocompatible materials in a leakproof manner.

How is the dental pulp inflamed?

The bacteria found in the oral cavity of every human being, leads to the formation of acids in our mouths combined with many foods taken. If these acids can not be removed from the mouth by good oral care, the tooth mine is damaged and decay occurs. If the caries formed in the ivory are not treated, they proceed to the dentin layer beneath the ivory layer and from there to the dental pulp. After a while, the microorganisms destroy the blood vessels and nerves in the pulp and allow inflammation to occur.

Another form of dental pulp inflammation is trauma caused by a blow to the tooth. Trauma causes the breakage of the veins and nerves entering the root of the tooth through the root and loses its dental vitality. Addition of microorganisms to this state in any way also causes inflammation of the dental pulp.

Another way of having dental pulp infection is to have a long periodontal disease (gingival and peripheral) around the tooth.

How can inflammation of the dental pulp be understood?

The fact that you have sensitivity to hot cold foods and drinks in your teeth, an intense or painful pain that occurs during eating and does not respond to pain relief indicates the onset of an inflammation or inflammation.

Excessive color changes occurring in the teeth may also be perceived as inflammation. In addition to these, teeth that reach to pulp but are not treated or in the case of patient’s pain when hit on the tooth previously made but failed are other indicators.

In such cases endodontic treatment may include root canal treatment, restoration of endodontically treated teeth, replacement of failed root canal treatments, bleaching of thickened teeth after canal treatment.

What are the stages of root canal treatment?

Stages of a root canal therapy:

Determining the infected teeth through radiography.
Removing the sensitivity of the tooth and its surrounding tissues by local anesthesia if the tooth is vital.
Removal of caries in enamel and dentinal tissues and preparation of a cavity for accessing pulp.
Isolation of the tooth by use of a rubber dam.
Determination of the length of the canals by using electronic instruments and confirmation through radiography.
Elimination of infected dentinal tissue along with microorganisms in the root canals by rotary endodontic instruments.
Elimination of microorganisms with root canal disinfectants during rotary endodontic instrument use.
If the tooth was not vital at the beginning of the treatment, a canal antiseptic is sealed into the canals for a period of time and then the canals are obstructed with canal fillings permanently.
The purpose of the root canal treatment is to prevent the infection from reoccurring and to restore the damage by ceasing the relation between the tooth and its surroundings.

Subsequent to root canal therapy, particularly the treatment of vital teeth, tolerable pain or sensitivity induced by pressure on the tooth for a few days is possible. This is not uncommon and the pain will disappear in a short time.
